When the opportunity came up to visit Paris for the second time, during Valentine's weekend no less, it didn't take much convincing for us to say yes. Is there any place more perfect to celebrate the holiday of love than the City of Love? But we did wonder, was it possible to do Paris on February 14th on a budget?
Part ritual, part mystery, part madness, Carnaval in southern Netherlands what I imagine being dropped in Wonderland would be like. For three days everything shuts down for people to dress up in elaborate (and often homemade) costumes, pull out their floats and music carts, load up on beer and snacks to sell, and do absolutely anything they want.

The truth is that I'm scared of what's next. I miss the certainty and the foolish abandon with which we pursued our Awesome 2015. As our bank account grows smaller, it gets harder to do things without knowing where exactly we're going. It's not just money, you see, but belief. Belief that we can do it again, make our year into whatever we choose, in 2016. And in 2017. And 2050.
