The past weekend was a big one for Haarlem and area as we celebrated both the Bloemencorso Flower Parade and Koningsdag (King's Day).
On Saturday April 23, the flower parade departed from Noordwijk on its way to Haarlem (passing the Keukenhof on the way). We already had plans for the evening, and were going to miss its night arrival in Haarlem, so we rode out to Noordwijk to catch a glimpse that morning.
Bloemencorso only takes place here, but makes the news throughout the country, so we feel really special to have been able to witness it. We were, of course, tardy to the parade (has a Shuchuk ever been on time?) but we were amazed by the second half, and the hour's bike ride was well worth it. This year's theme was "200 Years Kingdom" and the parade included twenty floats decorated completely with flowers and bulbs, luxury cars, marching bands and other entertainment.
On Sunday, April 24, the floats were on display in the centre of town, on the street our new apartment will look out on to. Enjoy!
